TORONTO EVENTS CALENDER:
- Anita passed around the Toronto Library System Events Calendar (Dana Morrow received this when she went to ALA in Toronto) for everyone to see.
SENIOR ADULT READING PROGRAM (SARP):
- Anita announced that we did not receive a Friends grant for the program. Anita wanted to have a very special program for all branches, but will unable to do so now due to the lack of funding. Perhaps we can all have a local program though. Anita passed around a list of program possibilities. Ann recommended a barbershop quartet that she recently had at BI called, “ Quattro.” She passed around their contact information. Anita asked that the branches assist financially with these programs. The group went through the list and discussed each performer.
- Anita said that she is anxious to start planning the SARP, but we need to wait until the Summer Reading Program is finished.
- Dana asked the programmers why we feel that our patrons need a SARP. There were several responses. We also need to rename the SARP to something else, definitely something more catchy?
- Dana passed out “Read to a Child” buttons for all the programmers. If you have a program and want to pass them out to the audience, please contact Dana or Anita.
SHARING:
- Shellie: She is busy with the teen programming this summer. It is going very well and is having a good participation level. Shellie will be scheduling Charles Dodson and Scrapbooking this fall.
- Linda: VI continues to hold Intermediate Spanish Classes.
- Dana: She presented information about our Senior Services at ALA in Toronto. Our Books by Mail program was well received.
- Nancy: She discussed the “name the dog” contest. PR will pick 10 names and then all patrons can pick one of these names in the entry. The ballots will be coming in soon. The winning name will be announced at the ballgame.
- Phyllis: DN will be having a computer basics class, she’ll be the teacher.
- Sharon (BE): The yoga class went very well and was well received. There were a lot of seniors and younger people there. Yoga for seniors was also requested. The instructor teaches at the YMCA.

- Ronna: The teen summer programs are going well. She is working a teen adivisory board, GED classes (talk to Karen if you need any contact info). The Bookclub is going strong as well.
- Ann: The barbershop quartet was well received. The “Let’s Talk About Oklahoma It” Oklahoma had 32 participants. But it did take a lot of coordination. The theme was a bit darkly, “looking for a home, The Oklahoma Experience.” August is national inventors month, they will be having a program called, “Aah, a great idea.”
- Kelly (WA): The teen Henna program was well received. They are thinking of having “Heart and Soul” at their library. Dana offered some outreach funds to help pay for it.
- Darrie: They had “Heart and Soul” in May and it was a great success. “Heart and Soul” also performs 50s & 60s music too.
- Kelley (Out): She will be performing with “The Radioheads” this Sunday at 4pm. She mentioned that she had read that the two most important factors in getting someone to attend a library program are: knowing the librarian’s name and being invited personally.
- Sharon (RE): Juneteenth was a great success! She just returned from a luncheon thanking all the VITA tax volunteers. She will be having more open mic poetry readings.
