EPS Updates
Transforming Teen Services training, virtual escape rooms, Oklahoma Music - Emily – sending out details about upcoming Transforming Teen Services training series, which also supports Young Adult/New Adult services. Next’s week’s focus is on connected learning, June is computational thinking, and July is ages & stages (adolescent development. Jakob has created two new virtual escape rooms, including Escape from Pompeii which ties into OKCMOA’s new summer exhibit The Painters of Pompeii. They are available on www.metrolibrary.org/escaperooms. Celebrate Oklahoma Music started this week with a performance of Oklahoma-themed songs with Carter Sampson. New videos from Special Collections are premiering on Facebook Live every Tuesday in May.
Pride – Jessica – Pride celebrations begin June 1. Yard signs provided. Pride Fest is the last weekend in June, EPS + Special Collections will have table & craft at Scissortail Park. Additional yard signs will be available during this time, too.
Asian Pacific American Heritage Month – Teresa – APA month page is up. 20 books purchased for Linda Sue Park author event, will be moderated by youth engagement staff.
Neighborhood Arts, Outdoor Programming Best Practices – Kristin - Wood Willow, Mr. Puppet, OKC Improv, and more at Myriad Gardens, Scissortail Park, and Festival of the Arts, OKCPS Summer School and Parks & Rec. Summer Reading
Training – Emily & Heidi
Summer Reading Training: 2019 had highest number of participants. This year, no teen volunteers in person. OKCPS students and faculty now all have Beanstack accounts. No fine waivers this year because of fine-free pilot. One level of prizes- 2 books OR tote bag. Will have limited number of books for adults, including these titles: Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Invisible Man, Where the Crawdads Sing, Nightingale, Cold Iron. Staff may have to reclaim blue carts, they were purchased for your summer reading books. Final drawing prizes include Pet Vet Play Set, headphones, grand prize of iPad and AirPods. Incentive/prize books have been sent out to branches. Per Teresa, Mondays and Thursdays are supply days if additional materials are needed. See the toolkit for how to document your numbers.
