Summer Reading Volunteer Supervisor Training & the Summer Volunteer Toolkit

Summer Reading Volunteer Supervisors at all library locations have completed two rounds of training over the past couple of months, learning about teen development, recruitment, interviewing, training, scheduling, supervision, recognition, and support! This year's Summer Reading Volunteer Supervisor training series was led and developed by Heidi Port (Volunteer Coordinator, DVS), Emily Williams (Teen Services Manager, EPS), and the wonderful Summer Reading Volunteer Supervisors throughout the system! To see all of the great information that was shared at this year's training series, make sure to take some time and explore the Summer Volunteer Toolkit. This toolkit is full of helpful resources that are beneficial to all staff at our library locations! This toolkit will also be linked to on the 2019 Summer Reading Intranet Site, due to go live in early April.

Volunteer Tips for Staff & Volunteer Recruitment

Volunteer recruitment for Summer Reading is full swing! Summer Reading Volunteer opportunities have been sent to last year's teen volunteers and are posted on our website for teens who are interested in volunteering at their library this summer! Heidi Port (Volunteer Coordinator, DVS) and Victoria Stephens (Internal Communications Coordinator, MAC), both members of the Summer Reading Staff and Volunteer Engagement Subcommittee, have created a helpful Tips for Staff guide that includes great information on volunteer recruitment, working with volunteers, logging volunteer hours, communicating with teens, and helping volunteers feel part of a team. Make sure to review Tip #1: Volunteer Recruitment as your library recruits volunteers over the upcoming weeks!
