In-Library Engagement

Summer Reading is the largest reading initiative the Metropolitan Library System offers all year. Thinking about ways to promote Summer Reading now will help you be more prepared to answer customer questions and encourage participation in the program.

1. Review the 'About Summer Reading' page for a refresher of why Summer Reading is important for all ages.
2. Practice downloading and using the Beanstack App and Website.
3. Tailor your message to your audience. Parents may be interested to hear about the importance of preventing the summer slide, while teens may be more excited about the Beanstack app.
4. Brainstorm talking points with your team that apply to the Community Goal and your library’s unique community needs.
5. Use decorations, displays, and promotional flyers to generate interest in Summer Reading. 
6. Have suggestions ready. Find out what books are on the Summer Reading lists for schools in your area and be ready to offer Reader’s Advisory on request.
