Database Highlight #46: We've got the ROCKSTAR for That!
This week’s database highlight is all about you and your customers! Summer Reading is officially here and Beanstack tracks all the ways you’re rocking it. Collect badges, record reading progress, and leave reviews.
While kids love to read and listen to stories, they will also be spending their summer out in the world. Vroom is a free website/app full of tips and activities to encourage learning. Customers can create an account to download the app or simply print out some tips to try first. Tips and activities are provided in English and Spanish.
Dance Party – Turn on some music and hold them as you dance around. When you sit down together, shake your arms to the music and see if they can do the same. Paying attention to sounds and movements is an early step in listening for sounds – a reading skill. Example activity for 0 - 5.
Action Steps
- If you haven’t logged in to Beanstack since staff training, log in and see where you’re at. Perhaps you can check off a few more activities and earn a new badge!
- Check out Vroom. Is this a site you feel you would recommend to customers? Is it a site you would use yourself (either as in a professional capacity or as a caregiver)?

* I'm up to date on logging my reading. The June quiz was fun and LOL @ the Oliver Stone category.
* Vroom looks fun and user friendly. I would recommend it to families/caregivers. I don't think it's something I would use on my own, because I'm never around any children for extended periods of time.
I need to fix my beanstack accounts; I've had teen volunteers log hundreds and hundreds of test minutes on mine so they could practice, and I've only read for an hour so far!
Vroom looks so cute! I love how it uses the child's name. I would definitely recommend this for caregivers. I hope to start doing digital storytimes so this would be a great thing to incorporate.
