Upgrade to Carl.X on Wednesday Night

This message is for all staff that have Carl.X staff client installed on their computer.  TLC will be upgrading the software on Wednesday night which require a re-install of the staff client.  Please make sure you close all software on your computer when you leave on Wednesday as the upgrade will require a re-boot of your computer before the software is re-installed.  During this upgrade, the system will be down from 10pm Wednesday evening until 1am Thursday morning (3 hours).

Most of the changes for Staff Client are items that are being “fixed” or “added” for new libraries that are switching to Carl in the next few months.  However, there are several new features in CarlConnect and in LS2 Pac mobile as well as a few behind the scenes updates in the Admin client.

Within CarlConnect, staff will now have the ability to add/update standard notes and to delete notes.  You will also be able to change settings on customer accounts for e-mail receipts, coming due notices, and hold shelf notices as well as view our user-defined statistics and registration statistics.

One item I would like to caution everyone about is that there is now a “Delete patron” button on the User Information screen.  Right now, we have no way of disabling that button; that is coming in the future.  Please do NOT delete customer records at this time.  If you do accidentally click it, there is a confirmation screen where you can click “cancel” to cancel the delete.  We do not want to delete customer records unless they are being done with a certain set of criteria or have been specifically requested to delete.

A couple of other exciting additions to CarlConnect are that you will now be able to look up item records from within CarlConnect.  If you click on the three dots at the upper right of the screen, there is a choice called “items” that will take you to a screen to look up either an item or BID.  You also will be able to view a customer’s account from within CarlConnect by clicking on the “MyAccount” link.  This will allow you to assist a customer with instruction on making payments online as well as if they have questions about their Reading Recommendations, Saved Lists, or Saved Searches.

Last, but not least, LS2 Pac is currently being re-branded as Carl Connect Discovery.  In the version that will be installed Wednesday night, customers using the mobile version will now be able to limit by facets the same as they have been able to on the desktop version as well as being able to sort their results.  These are two great features that are now going to be available to customers using the mobile version which should make their searching experience much better.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Also, please do not forget to close all of your software before leaving Wednesday evening as IT staff will be re-booting your computers overnight Wednesday night.  For those computers we are unable to reach, staff from IT will be contacting you Thursday morning to manually install the upgrade.
