Summer Reading

Getting Started Guide for All Staff:

  1. Visit: http://metrolibrary.beanstack.com.  
  2. Sign up for an account (click on Register as an Individual) or log in to your existing account using your @metrolibrary.org email address. 
    • Only users with an @metrolibrary.org email address can access the staff reading account. If you have not signed up for an account using your @metrolibrary.org email address, please do so and email [email protected] to update your permissions. 
      • Because we are using the same system as last year, your account will still be active within Beanstack. 
      • Don’t remember your password? That’s okay, use the "forgot your password" feature to reset your password.  
  3. After logging in, if you are redirected to the admin portion, click the green View Reader Experience button on the right. 
  4. Look for “Staff Summer Reading 2024 Demo” under Current Challenges. 
    • If you do not see this section, please email [email protected] to update your Beanstack permissions.  
  5. Click the Register for this Program button.  
  6. Click the Log Reading and Activities button at the top to:  
    • Log Reading: Click on Log Minutes to log reading and to write book reviews.  
      • Log 20 minutes for today.  
    • Log Activities: Click on Complete an Activity to log activities.  
      • Select an activity to add to your log.  
  7. Return to the Staff Reading Program 2024 Homepage and click the Add a Review button at the top to practice posting a book review.  
    • Write a review of the last book you read. 
    • You can also practice posting a picture review if you'd like.  
  8. Return to the Staff Reading Program 2024 Homepage and click on the Edit button next to your name to:  
    • Update basic information.
    • Create your personalized reading doorways.
    • Opt-in/out of personalized recommendations.
    • Opt-in/out of email notifications.
    • Share the reader profile with others.
    • Add a reader to your account. 
  9. Click on Gear Icon at the top right to update information such as library card number, preferred branch, and password.

Administrative Features (For Public Services Staff Only) 

  1. Log in with your @metrolibrary.org account or Library level account.  
  2. Click the green View Admin Experience button on the right. If this is not visible, log in with your library's staff login credentials. If you do not have access to these logins, please visit with your supervisor. For some staff, the Admin Access page will be your default page in Beanstack when you login.  
  3. Click People and then Find a Person and:  
    • Practice finding yourself.  
  4. Once you have found yourself in Beanstack, click Log Reading or Add to Log.
    • Practice logging minutes (making sure to add enough minutes to be able to redeem a prize).  
  5. Click Log Activity.  
    • Practice logging reading activities.  
  6. Redeem a prize.  
    • Redeem a prize/reward by clicking on the Redeemed box next to the appropriate prize/reward. You will need to make sure to log enough minutes and activities first!  
  7. Click Edit Reader.  
    • Practice editing your information.  
  8. Click Home and then People. Then click on Add an Account Creator and Reader and:  
    • Create an account for a Family or Individual
      • In the role drop-down use the default: Patron to award customer/patron privileges. If you assign Volunteer permissions they will have advanced features.
    • Create an account for a Group
      • In the role drop-down use the default: Patron to award customer/patron privileges. If you assign Volunteer permissions they will have advanced features.
