Let the Games Begin: Summer Reading Staff Challenge Launches Monday, July 17th!

On Monday, we will launch a little friendly competition to measure the largest jump in minutes from July 17th to July 31st at each library location. The good thing about these games is that the odds are in everyone’s favor! Your challenge over the next two weeks is to increase the average number of minutes read per person for your location. So, it does not matter if you are a large library or a small library. It does not matter if your circulation numbers are the highest or the lowest. It does not even matter where your numbers are up to this point in the summer reading program.

Update on Department Moves Timeline

Morgan has been working on the logistics of the upcoming department moves – affecting the downtown library and the service center staff primarily. The below dates reflect the current look of things in terms of time, as it requires coordination with IT and some moving of furniture.

This information has been communicated to managers, and they know what steps to take in preparation for the move. Any questions can be directed to your manager or Morgan directly.

Keep Climbing – WE ARE Building a better World

keep climing - keep readingGOAL: 16 million minutes read

CURRENT NUMBER OF MINUTES READ: 8,419,996 minutes read

Let’s be honest, 16 million is a huge number. But, a goal is meant to be challenging, right? And we aren’t working alone. There are about 870 thousand people in the Metro area. Imagine the minutes we could get if each person read just 20 minutes– that would be over a million minutes above and beyond our goal! And if those same people read 20 minutes for each of the 22 days remaining in the summer reading program – that would be over 300 million minutes above and beyond our goal!

Database Highlight #2: We've Got the Ice Cream for That

July is National Ice Cream month! This week’s database highlight goes to Culture Grams.

Culture Grams is your one-stop shop containing state and country profiles, graphs and tables, photos, biographical articles, and unique information like recipes from around the world. There is a version of this database just for kids and a version for everyone else.
