Press Release & System News

We have recently updated the eMedia site on the Intranet as well as at metrolibrary.org in an attempt to better help you and your customers answer eMedia questions. First, if you visit the eMedia help section at metrolibrary.org by mousing over Help and clicking eBook Help & Information, you’ll see that the Basics tab has been updated to include an important reminder about issuing a new/replacement library card to someone who has previously used OverDrive.

If you click on the Tutorials tab, you'll see a page full of newly updated tutorials. The tutorials for Android, Apple, Kindle Fire, and NOOK Color/Tablet/HD are PDFs that you can print out and keep on hand for customers who prefer a paper copy of instructions. Each one of these tutorials demonstrates how to use EPUB eBooks, Kindle eBooks, OverDrive READ eBooks, and MP3 audiobooks on a specific device. The Audiobooks and Ebooks tutorials demonstrate how to enjoy these respective formats on a computer or a mobile device. The Kindle tutorial shows how to search for Kindle titles, how to transfer USB Only titles to a Kindle, and how to return a Kindle title early. Finally, the OverDrive READ tutorial will show you the easiest way to read eBooks by simply reading them in the browser. OverDrive READ titles do not require the creation of an Adobe ID and in most cases, no additional software is needed. OverDrive READ allows readers to simply “See book–Read book.” 80% of our eBooks are in the OverDrive READ format so they’re a good option for anyone looking to quickly and easily read an eBook.

All of this content is mirrored on the eMedia page on the Intranet with the exception that in the Help & Tutorials section on the Intranet, there are PDFs of eReader and tablet reviews from Consumer Reports for those who are interested. Give these updated resources a look and let us know what you think.
