This is a short video that provides information regarding where we are with the budgeting process, our approach to reopening the library, the work of the Communications Cabinet, and appreciation for the work that you do. Are the numbers of infections and vaccinations linked in determining the safety of staff and customers?
As the year advances and with polls indicating a strong vaccine hesitancy and/or refusal to be vaccinated against COVID--unrelated to health or religious situations--eventually there will be a plateau where any Oklahoman who is willing to be vaccinated will be reached. This would result in vaccinations leveling off, but infections could increase. Is there a ratio of these two sets of data in deciding when to modify the course of normal operations?
I understand also the existing societal and political ratio involved in keeping staff and customers safe while fulfilling the legal requirements of MLS's service and tax obligations.
Hi,
There is no formula or set ratio for determining the safety of staff and customers in this process. We monitor both vaccination rates and the covid case rates, which at present are both heading in good directions, and make decisions based on those two data points and other things (like staff case counts, etc.) If things change, we will reconsider our efforts. There will naturally be a maximum level of vaccination and a minimum level of covid cases that we will have to contend with, but until we know what those are, we will keep moving towards being open normally. If we do go back to in person programming and being open like normal, will we go back to renting our rooms? If so, will August 1st be the first date they can start booking out their rooms?
IF everything goes as we hope, and we get to August 1and things seem okay, then yes we would be booking our meeting rooms again starting on August 1, 2021.
