Reminder About New Barcodes for Multi-Part Materials

Recently, Cataloging has received several requests to make new barcode labels for DVDs containing multiple discs, without all discs having been accounted for. To maintain proper inventory control, a barcode label cannot be issued unless all parts of an item are present. This helps to prevent items being separated and causing the same item number to appear on separate materials.
As a reminder, please check the catalog before sending any material for a new barcode label. If the material consists of multiple parts (2 DVDs, a CD and a book, etc.), please make sure that all parts are present and to send all parts to Cataloging. This will help to avoid wasting time and resources creating barcode labels for materials that cannot be circulated.
If you know that part of a material is missing and would like to be able to continue circulating it, please contact Cataloging directly. Staff there will work with you to find the best way to handle the individual situation.
Thank you all for your assistance, and for your work in helping to connect customers with materials.
