Databases Disappearing at the End of the Month

Print

After receiving feedback and evaluating usage statistics, Collection Development has made the determination to cancel the following databases at the end of the month. Read more to see the list:

Access Science - high cost-per-use ($51.51); MLS subscribes to both Science Online and Science Reference Center.

Dictionaries Pro -  high cost-per-use ($36.42); availability of free and reliable online translators. Interface featured open section which fed customers ads. Ads make for a poor experience and are directly opposed to the public library's values and integrity. The free content is featured prominently on the mobile version.

Statistical Insight  - extremely high cost-per-use ($196.00); much of the information is easily accessible on census.gov.

Ulrich's Web - extremely high cost-per-use ($101.79); originally purchased for CD use but is no longer necessary.

Action Steps:

  • Check out some of the alternative resources.
  • Make any members who might frequently use any of these databases aware of their cancellations and offer alternatives.
