Database Highlight #38: We've Got the Legal Form for That

“Tax Deadline” may not be poetry to your ears but it does happen in April. This week’s database highlight, Legal Forms Library, provides our customers with state-specific copies/examples of legal forms, including various tax forms. Most major forms can be downloaded in Word. The database has forms on Divorce, Wills, Real Estate, Bankruptcy, and much more!
Gale LegalForms provides a comprehensive look at various types of legal documents. Users can take the law into their own hands and create accurate, reliable legal documents with no hassle or stress. It offers the most robust collection of accessible legal information available. Our forms are "attorney forms"—officially approved forms actually used at a typical law firm, and very different from those documents found in form books that may not have been drafted by an attorney. Completed sample forms are also included. – from the vendor
Legal Forms does not include federal forms and does not have the general state tax forms many customers could be looking for as the tax deadline approaches. So this week’s open site is two for the price of one!
Action steps
- Take a look at Legal Forms Library. Practice downloading and filling out a form. Did you run into any trouble?
- Since many of the forms touch on sensitive issues, how and where do you think you would promote or discuss this database with customers?
- Share any customer tax tips (i.e.: do you keep any popular forms pre-printed? Do you have bookmarks to the tax forms on public computers?)

I didn't have any problem downloading a form. I've only had 1 experience with having to help a customer download a form. They basically asked for a form, I found it, and then I printed it off. I didn't ask them about why they needed it or anything. LOL
Our library has some tax forms pre-printed in folders at the Info Desk. We also have instruction forms - some available for checkout, some for in-library use only.
I've never run into any issues using this database and have assisted customers with it on several occasions. The forms that I have helped customers find have been for very unfortunate situations. Fighting for custody, lease agreements, power of attorney, those kinds of things. It's great that we have access to these forms and it's helpful that there are examples of a lot of the forms on there as well.
I haven't needed it for any tax forms this year since we keep copies at the reference desk.
I didn't have any problems with downloading. I haven't helped anybody with this database, but I have often referred people to this database who have asked about legal forms.
We don't keep copies of tax forms, only the instructions that people can check out. We do print the forms out for them when they do ask.
