Classification and Compensation Study 2022

Many of you have heard that we are doing a class and comp study right now and I wanted to let you know where we are and what to expect as we move forward in this process.

The library last conducted a classification and compensation study in 2018.  Since that time, there have been significant changes in compensation practices brought on in part by the pandemic and its residual impacts on the labor market.  To ensure that our compensation and benefits package (i.e., total rewards program) are equitable and competitive, I authorized a new study in January.  As a result of a competitive bid process, NFP consultants were selected to lead the project. Following is some information regarding NFP and the study process:

Who is NFP?

NFP’s Total Rewards and Compensation team are expert consultants who the library selected to lead our 2022 classification, compensation, and benefits study.  NFP specializes in creating compensation strategies that align with market and industry benchmarks and reflect a total rewards model, which will help us meet our goals of ensuring our compensation structure is competitive and equitable.  NFP subscribes to several reputable data sources for compensation benchmarks and will use that data and a survey of peer competitors to support the project.  They will work together with us to develop a total rewards and compensation structure that fits our unique needs at the Metropolitan Library System.

What are we doing?

Over the next several weeks, NFP will be working closely with Human Resources to collect current data and information on our compensation practices and benefits package. NFP will be comparing key positions to industry market data as part of our benchmarking process. They will then use that data to make recommendations, where needed, to the total rewards programs. While we are examining all of the organization in this process, we will be focusing attention in this study on positions in pay grades 10-17.

How will this impact you?

Employees are Metropolitan Library System’s most valuable resource. While we are engaging in this total rewards project, it is important to mention that the results of the analysis will vary for each role in the organization and that the employee’s current total compensation packages may be found to be both equitable and competitive with the current market and philosophy of Metropolitan Library System. The organization remains committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, total rewards program and continues to make investments in its staff.

Once again, we are excited to be partnering with NFP in current total rewards and compensation engagement. You will receive periodic updates as the project progresses.

Thank you for your loyalty and dedication. Your accomplishments have been integral to our every success and your efforts are deeply appreciated.
