Today we launched our CARL micro-courses in MetroU! Courses include:

  • Item Searching
  • Holds
  • Fill / Wander List
  • Patron Searching

Troubleshooting Accounts has an instructor led training component with options to take either virtual via Zoom or in person at the Downtown Library! All other trainings will be self-paced. All trainings will require a checklist to be completed to be marked completed in MetroU. Certain checklists are required to be done with a manager as it may be related to judgement calls that could negatively impact a guest’s account while some may be done with a peer if it is more routine procedures. See the image below for the schedule.

You’ll find course descriptions, objectives, and the initiatives in the document below.

There will be four Initiatives that will be required for new employees starting February 20, 2023. For employees who did not have a chance to take the access workshop series, Managers can Recommend or Require in MetroU a staff member complete the courses listed in the initiative based on their position. The courses in the initiative are necessary information to help the staff member complete their work. While there are 12 courses that are launching, all 12 courses won’t be in your initiative. If you have supervisor approval, we welcome you to develop your knowledge and skills in CARL and take additional courses!

Additionally, we have updates to the Basics course. Access Basics has been renamed to CARL Basics. We removed unnecessary information for new employees to know such as establishing eligibility and CARL.Connect fill/wander list.

Don’t forget we also have the CARL Social Community in MetroU. The purpose of the CARL Social Learning Community is to create a safe space for MLS employees to engage with each other about CARL. We’ll have conversations about CARL, learn, share feedback, and ask general questions about CARL ins and outs. You do NOT have to complete all CARL courses to join. Participation and questions are encouraged and welcomed!

Huge thank you to Meghan Attalla (ALM MC), Rondia Banks (BE LM), Daniel Chesney (DN ALM), Milissa Copeland (L&D), Jared Johnson (BE AM), Candace Robertson (L&D), Kevin Sendall (MC AM), Carmen Stoneking (CL AM) who helped build, create, and review content.
