Haunt the Hill

Halloween celebrations took place on Capitol Hill Main Street on Halloween night as part of the 1st Haunt the Hill Event, an idea conceived by Jennifer Jones, Capitol Hill Associate Librarian, in collaboration with the Capitol Hill Business Improvement District. This event sought to provide a fun and safe event for the community that both young and old could enjoy. As a testament to the event's success, hundreds of children and families walked along SW 25th between Hudson and Robinson from 5-9 p.m., gathering candy, giveaways and more from local retailers and community partners including OCCC. Capitol Hill Library gave away 800 backpacks, buckets of candy and boxes of books.

Capitol Hill and other Metropolitan Library staff, along with volunteers, dressed up in a variety of costumes ranging from witches and mad scientists to superheroes and Downton Abbey Staff (a popular British drama shown on PBS) to participate in the event. There is a possibility for this event to continue in years to come.

Innovative community partnership

Great idea to involve the community and create an event that could increase library visibility beyond what the physical walls would hold! Plus it kept all that candy away from the books! I know the volunteers who helped enjoyed it as well!

Way to go, Jennifer! Way to go, Capitol Hill Staff!
