Submitted by sadie.bruce on Tue, 03/28/2017 - 08:39

Starting next week, PressReader will redirect to a brand new interface.
Enjoy all of the features of old PressReader with an updated look with modern functionality.
Features Include:
-
Front-page News -- the front page of the interface offers categories such as Top News, Business, Sports, and the World in Pictures.
-
Multi-title searching -- users can search across all titles and the entire 60-day rolling archive.
-
Full-page and custom area printing for all titles -- users can print page images, in addition to article-level printing available in SmartNavigation titles.
-
Article Rank -- measures the interest or popularity of an article, which is determined by the length of time readers spend on that specific article and by the overall attention the article received from all users. Article Rank is continually updated to reflect the most current reading preferences as determined by Library PressDisplay readers.
-
My Newspapers -- library staff can customize the front page to display the newspapers their patrons read most.
-
Multilingual Interface -- the interface is available in English, French, Russian, Italian, German, and Arabic.

This redesigned site looks MUCH better. It's less cluttered & finally looks good on a mobile device. I like the audio feature that reads top stories from various newspapers, albeit in a clunky, robotic voice. I also like that the over 3000 US & international magazines are now more easily available.
It looks good and probably is nicer to read on a tablet. However, I use this a lot for UK newspapers and the redesigned look is much harder to access unless I am missing something. I couldn't find thumbnails of each paper for quick scrolling. Nor could I work out how to print a selection. e.g the crossword. I could right click and select the text to print but then couldn't work how to actually print it. Any ideas anyone? Plus it kept freezing up on our computers.
Hi Christine,
Using a tablet, here's how I navigated to thumbnails of newspapers:
That displayed thumbnails of newspapers from around the world & I still had the option to browse only UK newspapers by selecting UK from the Countries menu on the left side of the screen.
As for printing, on my desktop, I right-clicked a crossword & in the menu that popped up, I selected Print. On the next menu, I selected Print as image & was then presented with a preview of the printed crossword. FWIW, on a tablet, I tapped my finger on the crossword & held it down & after 2 seconds, the same print menu popped up.
Hope that helps.
Thanks Tim!
I do think this redesign has table users in mind. Here's how I navigate on a PC.

I hope this is helpful. There are lots of options to save favorite publications and customize settings if you have an account. It may be worth setting up an account for the library's computers? Again, that's geared toward the mobile readers who had to create an account to access the app.
As for it locking up your computers, I haven't had any trouble so that's probably a question for IT.
I am still having trouble. When you see the blue highlight and right click for print options, the green box pops up for the selection to print but how do you get it to print from there once you have resized it? Nothing happens when I try. What do you mean when you say, click on the black box?
I prefer to read on my computer if I am going to print but will try on my tablet later on. I have it saved as a favourite on my computer and the old format is still coming up when I log in with my library card. I can access and print what I need to very fast but hopefully I will get used to the new format??
Thanks for your help!
What option did you pick from the print menu when you right clicked? If you clicked custom size and you drag around the area you want printed, there's a green Print button up in the top right hand corner. It's kind of tricky to spot unless you know it's there. All the other options bring up the standard print dialogue box.
The black box I referred to is directly on the left when you first 'open' a newspaper. I have a screenshot I can email you if you want.
