We've heard you...MORE eBooks!

Print

Our digital collection has grown by 250,000 titles with the addition of EBSCO eBooks. These titles span nearly 3 dozen subject areas and include categories like:

  • Arts & Architecture
  • Biographies & Memoirs
  • Children's & Young Adult Fiction & Nonfiction
  • Computer Science
  • Cooking
  • Fiction
  • Home & Garden
  • Law
  • Philosophy
  • Reference
  • Self-Help & Family
  • True Crime

The addition of EBSCO eBooks complements the popular fiction and nonfiction that Overdrive primarily offers by allowing us to offer a deeper collection with thousands of fiction, nonfiction and reference eBooks to our members.

Highlights

  • All titles are available all the time so there is no need to place a hold on a title
  • Since all titles are available all the time, there are no checkout limits like the 10 title limit with OverDrive
  • Read eBooks in your browser or download them to your mobile device using the EBSCO app or to your desktop/laptop using Adobe Digital Editions
  • Add to a folder, save pages, email pages, cite, share, and more
  • 14 day lending period for downloaded eBooks and an unlimited lending period for eBooks read in the browser

Short-cut

Will there be a short-cut like for OverDrive?
e.g. ebsco.metrolibrary.org

Great idea! While we haven't yet ironed out the URL, we do have plans to create a URL for this collection so stay tuned!

Catalog

Will the EBSCO eBooks be indexed in our online catalog, or will library members need to do separate searches to find all of our offerings?

re: catalog

We're working on obtaining the MARC records for an import into LS2 but they probably won't be imported by the time it goes live.

MARC Records and Go-Live

When is it slated to go live (did I miss that in the intranet message)? -- Also, when do you expect the records to be added to the catalog?

MARC

Hey Tim!

Thanks for the questions. We are having a soft launch tomorrow, June 23rd for our customers. We will be adding links on our Downloads page, update our eBook quick start guides, and a blog post to share on social media. We are working with MSL now to finalize the timeline for uploading the MARC records. We will keep you posted as we have more information.

Bookmarks?

Just playing around with this, trying to familiarize myself with how it works, and I'm not seeing a way to bookmark which page you are on when reading in your browser. Do you know if there's a way to do this?

RE: Bookmarks

HI Kassy,
If you're reading a title in your browser, it doesn't look like it can be bookmarked, even if you have created a MyEBSCOhost account, are signed in, and have the saved the eBook in your folder. To bookmark an eBook, you'll need to first download the title to a desktop/laptop using Adobe Digital Editions or to a mobile device using the EBSCO eBooks app and then use the respective software to bookmark the eBook.

Thanks!

Thanks, Tim! I figured that was the case, but I just wanted to see if you had some super secret know-how that I didn't.

re: Bookmark

I do have super secret know-how but it will involve the use of a neuralyzer so you weigh the risks:
