Discussion:

Welcome to Roberto Soto who represent Maintenance on the Safety Committee until the Director position has been filled.

Safety training for the second quarter is up and running on LMS. To date, 294 employees have completed the required training on Tornado Safety.

Chris asked if managers should be concerned if employees have less than a 100% score on this training. The goal is to have 100% participation and completion of the training by staff. If the score is failing, the employee is given the opportunity to re-take the final exam.

The committee discussed the need to place a sign on all of the library facilities stating “Not a Public Shelter”. The P&P committee has been working on a policy and procedure to address the city’s recommendation that no public building is designated as a shelter during inclement weather. By placing a sign on the building, the public may become confused and only remember that they saw a sign that says “shelter” and automatically think that the library will remain open during a weather emergency when, in fact, all facilities are to secure their entry doors when the staff has evacuated to the designated shelter within the building. Marketing has been in communication with the City to develop the protocol for this situation and more information will be released soon.

Lloyd discussed the recent fire evacuation at Downtown due to an electrical fire. The weekend staff was not fully acquainted with the proper evacuation procedures for the building. There are very detailed procedures written for the Downtown building that outline all staff duties during regular weekday, weekend and after hours.

The Worker’s Comp report was reviewed by the committee. We have one new accident added this month for a total of two for the year.

Around the table:

Lori reported that new worker’s comp legislation has passed and will positively affect the way we do business. Lori will keep us updated as more information is available.

Kay reported that Ralph Ellison is closed at least for the rest of today due to plumbing issues.

Chris asked about the Emergency Kit mentioned in the safety training this quarter. All locations should have a kit including all of the items listed. Every location has a budget for safety supplies (account 312). Supplies should be purchased using these funds.

Jana reported that the elevator a Capitol Hill is now operational (thanks to Roberto).

A tour of the facility followed discussions. The following was noted:

Inspection of all fire extinguishers revealed the extinguisher in the back room was not inspected at the same time all the others were. Roberto will correct. Also, the fire extinguisher in the back room was sitting on the floor and should be mounted on the wall. Jana will issue a maintenance request.

The bulletin board postings in the staff lounge are outdated. Lori will provide a new poster.

The breaker panel in the main library area is not properly labeled. Jana and Roberto will correct.

The breaker panel in the storage room is blocked by a table and supplies. All breaker panels are to be un-obstructed.
