Staff Development Day 2020
Submitted by milissa.copeland on Thu, 08/13/2020 - 08:15

In light of the current world pandemic and in efforts to continue to do our part to ensure the health and safety of all MLS staff, Staff Development Day 2020 has been canceled.
Staff Development Day is not a recognized holiday by the MLS Commission, but a day the Commission granted us closure for professional development as a System. As such, October 12, 2020 will be a normal day of operation serving our customers (we will not be closed).
The Commission will be considering the revised holiday calendar for approval at the Commission Meeting on August 27, 2020.
**We do know flu shots will be available in September. More information coming through Wellness Works in the very near future.

I see that our Staff Day has been cancelled. Are Flu shots still going to be offered? I have noticed that Walgreens and CVS are already offering them.
Hi,
Thank you for your question. I did just find out Flu Shots will be coming/available in September to our staff. More information will be coming out shortly via Wellness Works. So we will still have that benefit.
Good Afternoon,
Will the Blackout Date be removed from the Calendar? I have vacacation that week and may need to add that day to my Time Card.
Hi,
Please get with your supervisor on this. I believe should be able to request time off via Paycom.
Sorry I could not be more helpful.
Milissa
Good morning,
I did confirm that the Business Office removed the blackout date for October 12 and you can now request AVL.
Hope this helps ~ Milissa
Do you anticipate finding another date for Staff Development this year, or not until 2021?
Hi Katie,
At this time we do not with the current climate, unknowns and the increase in COVID-19 cases in Oklahoma. We are hopeful 2021 will be a better year.
Thank you for your question.
Thanks for the update! While the Commission is reviewing a revised holiday schedule is there anyway they would consider adding November 3rd (election day) to the holiday schedule? Many companies are doing this!

Hi,
I am sorry, I can't really answer that. Staff Development Day has never been a holiday. It is a day the Commission has graciously granted the System to close for professional development as a whole. We are given a certain number of 'holidays' and staff day is not one of them as it is required for all full-time staff. What you are asking to add a holiday (paid time off) which is in a different category and explain to the community (tax payers) why we get paid for a 'voting' day. I am honestly not sure what their criteria is for making decisions. But we do have System Guidelines on voting if needed. :)
Not a problem! Thanks for your answer! Yes, I am very thankful we have voting leave. :)
