New Databases - Ebsco's Literary Reference Center Plus and Science Reference Center

Collection Anywhere announces two new resources! Literary Reference Center Plus and Science Reference Center have been added to the Ebsco suite. From the vendor:

“Literary Reference Center Plus includes full-text resources focusing on plays/drama, poetry, religious literature and children's literature. This database also includes volumes of fantasy/science fiction, contemporary literature, world philosophy and religious literature, and literary study guides covering American Literature, English Literature and literary genres.” Source 

“Science Reference Center is available via EBSCOhost or a dedicated interface that allows students to browse topics by category and have quick access to science experiments, a citation tool, and helpful research guides. In addition to full-text coverage, Science Reference Center includes the Science Image Collection, a database of more than 275,000 high-quality science images from National Geographic, UPI, Getty, NASA and Nature Picture Library.” Source 

There are four ways to access this new content:

  1. Via Ebscohost – preferred by most reference librarians
  2. Direct links – to access the databases front interfaces which offer features like browse topics and featured collections (including science projects)  Literary Reference Center/ Science Reference Center 
  3. Through Explora – these databases sit behind the interface, helping to make Explora a “one-stop-shop” for members
  4. By searching the EDS – like all Ebsco resources, these new databases integrate seamlessly with discovery

  • The digital library is a great place to research Literature reports and discover scientific articles.
  • There are multiple ways to get information, let’s find one that works for you.
  • Needing a Flannery O’Conner story for English class but all the anthologies are check out of the school library? No problem, Literary Reference Center Plus has full text stories and poems from hundreds of authors.
  • Needing a science project? Science Reference Center has you covered. 

 

Action Steps:

  • Try accessing Literary Reference Center Plus and Science Reference Center in a couple ways – which interface is your favorite?
  • Search for your favorite author, can you find biographical information on him/her? (hint: search under ‘keyword’)
  • Try to find a science project most likely to cause damage (ie: electrical wiring, explosions, harsh chemicals, etc.)
