Tax Day is Apr. 17 – Be Prepared to Answer These Questions

Print

Tax season is here – it is an exciting time, but it can also be a time of stress and confusion. Completing tax documents is a daunting task, and library customers may expect the library to be a resource for tax help.

Things to Remember this Tax Season

  • Listen.
  • Be Positive. Focus on what we CAN do for the customer, and not what we can’t.
  • Be Proactive. Create a display of tax resources at your location. Be sure to include printouts of tax assistance locations.

Tax Season Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find free tax help?

Both AARP and the VITA Program offer free tax assistance throughout OK County. I’d love to share their up-to-date list of locations and help you identify the most convenient tax help site for you. This information is also available on Metro Library’s Tax Help webpage.

I’m happy to call any of these locations for you to double check that the listed dates and times are up-to-date.

VITA Site Locations

My library used to be an AARP Tax-Aide location. Why isn’t this service offered at my library anymore?

We have been working with AARP for the past year to help them find new locations in our service areas to help their trained volunteers best serve and accommodate OK County residents this tax season. These locations do include two Metro Library locations: Southern Oaks and Ralph Ellison. I’d love to share AARP’s up-to-date list of Tax-Aide locations and help identify the most convenient location for you. We also have information on where you can receive tax help through the VITA Program and their trained volunteers. This information can also be found on Metro Library’s Tax Help webpage.

I’m happy to call any of these locations for you to double check that the listed dates and times are up-to-date.

Where do I get a tax form?

Library customers can print tax forms at their library for free. There are also print copies of state and federal tax instructions available for in-house use and check-out at every Metro Library location. Printable state and federal tax forms are available on the MLS Income Tax Resource webpage. (To be fully updated by late Jan.)

How can I file my taxes online?

The library has a list of online tax resources available on the MLS Income Tax Resource Page, including the criteria that must be met to use that resource for free.
