News Release: Author Hour Series Continues

The Metropolitan Library System will start this upcoming quarter of the new author hour series which will feature authors of different genres from across the nation and in the UK.  This quarter features the genres of Oklahoma Authors, Black History Month and Publishing Talk all on Facebook Live.

“Author Hour was created to give people in the community a chance to connect with authors,” said Danielle Bunner, adult engagement specialist at the Edmond Library. “I specifically wanted to represent a variety of different genres and authors in the panels, to help expose people to books and authors they already enjoy, or may not have heard about.”

The pandemic created this new opportunity to bring authors to MLS without barriers that existed before, and it’s a great way to take advantage of authors needing a platform, libraries needing virtual programming, and people needing things to do.

The authors were picked by looking at genres that are popular with our customers and trying to discover what they are reading. Bunner also used other tools such as good reasons to build a list of potential authors and books.

In January, the panel will consist of four popular Oklahoma authors: William Bernhart of Twisted Justice, Lou Berney, November Road, David Slayton, White Trash Warlock, and Michele Feltman Strider, Homestyle. The panel will on MLS’s Facebook Live on January 16 at 2:00 p.m.

February’s panel features prominent African-American authors to coincide with Black History Month. The panelists are Shakirah Bourne, Josephine Against the Sea, Malika Grayson, Hooded, and Sarah Raughley, Legacy of Light (Effigies series, Book Three).

The March panel features authors who are also agents to discuss points like how to balance writing with being an agent, what agents are looking for, how publishing works. The panel will consist of Tracy Marchini, Chicken Wants a Nap, Eric Smith, Don’t Read the Comments, and Lauren Spieller, She’s the Worst
