Good Bye Materials Selection, Hello Collection Development!

Print

On Wednesday, July 26th, Materials Selection will officially become Collection Development, and will be moving from the Downtown Library to the Service Center.

Please route all mail to the Service Center marked for Collection Development OR for the specific person to whom you’re sending the mail.  Our phone numbers will not change.

Kellie Delaney and Greg Bennett, also part of Collection Anywhere, will remain at the Downtown Library, though Kellie will be moving from her current workspace into the Marketing office early in August.

Where to send stuff?

There is a list of items, not very long, but still a list of items that we send to Material Selection for review or to keep. These are things like local history, last copies, new bestsellers, or generally things that we felt Materials Selection might want to see before the friends sale, etc. I'm sure you don't want that much, but there may still be a few. The tag says something like Downtown basement. If there's no one going to the basement, where should such items go? We have many boxes ready to go (just kidding about that part), but we might have something someday.

Collection Development-stuff

Hi Ann,
You're correct that there is no one in the basement to handle anything going to the basement since Collection Development (formerly MSL) staff moved to the Service Center. So please do not send anything to the basement. For now, send all of your withdrawn items to the Friends Booksale. We asked DN staff to capture their best copies of past best sellers and place them in the basement, so we don't lose runs of series or great copies for replacements.

Also, we are working on plans for the Collection Anywhere Center, trying to determine what should go to the center, where we will house it and when it will be operational. In conjunction with the plans for the Collection Anywhere Center, Collection Development will be working with library managers and staff formulating collection plans for each library. The plans will help you as you weed your collections and help us as we develop your collections. Win/win!

We will post information regarding the progress of both the center and the plans as we go forward. Thanks for your question about this!
