Preparing Severe Weather Communication Plan
Discussion:
- Meteorologists predict high risk for tornadoes at end of March and into April.
- Mark: All libraries have their own emergency plans and are currently reviewing those.
- Use of Chromebooks and hotspots we have across the system
- Can they be quickly packaged for rapid response?
- Can we block off big, shaded areas to set up distanced tables outside with Chromebooks for those who need to use the wifi in a pinch?
- Mark: This is the direction we’re going. We’d like to keep the available hotspots and Chromebooks charged and ready to go so they can provide customers at home with computer and internet access.
- Some have said branches have been told not to lend them.
- Kim: Can we change library signs that say “This is not a designated tornado shelter” so they read more positively to customers? Discussion, but no resolution to this.
Actions:
- Kim will work on severe weather communication scripts.
- Mark will discuss severe weather services with PSLT and encourage as much standardization in processes as possible. He will report back to us at the next meeting.
Sub-committees
- After 40 minutes of group discussion, subgroups chaired by Kellie Delaney and Paula Joseph-Johnson met for the remainder of the meeting.
