Coming soon: Discovery service
We will soon roll out a product called EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) that will allow members to use a single search interface to search our catalog (LS2PAC), our eBook collection from EBSCO, and many of our databases. The EDS search bar will replace the current search bar at the top right of Metro's homepage. Nothing will change on the catalog's homepage, which will still be accessible when someone clicks the My Account button on the Metro homepage. EDS simply provides the ability to search more of our collection in one pass.
While EDS is not quite ready for primetime, you can test it out now at discovery.metrolibrary.org. If you've ever used an EBSCOhost database, the EDS search interface should look familiar. By default, a search performed using EDS will search our catalog and our databases but like with LS2, search results can be tweaked using the search filters on the left side of the screen:
EDS is currently having problems connecting to Gale databases (such as Opposing Viewpoints in Context and Literature Resource Center) but we hope they'll have this problem resolved soon.
There are some other quirks with EDS that will take some getting used to (e.g. all audiobooks from OverDrive are displayed as an eBook):
And finally, here's the list of content that EDS can search:

This is so great!! I've only played around with it a little bit but I'm already in love. So exciting!
One thing I feel would make the searching easier is instead of having to go to the advanced search fields to change location, have it where you can change location even after you searched it on the results page under the refined on the left side of the screen. But I feel that the layout is a lot more user friendly.
