2017 Booksale Information

Location: 

Thank you for your part in raising awareness about the 38th Annual Friends of the Metropolitan Library System Booksale on Saturday February 25th and Sunday February 26th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in the Oklahoma Expo Building. The Booksale will go on regardless of the weather. It will not close unless the Fairgrounds does! 

The Friends have asked all library staff to encourage any non-profits to come to the Fairgrounds on Sunday, February 26th at 6 p.m. to have any books they want for FREE! They can show up – but if they’d like information please forward their name and email address to [email protected] Volunteers can shop for FREE that night as well!

Membership

Members of the Friends of the Library can pre-shop on Friday February 24th! 

Memberships can be purchased online at www.mlsfriends.org until Thursday, February 23th. Memberships purchased before February 3, 2017 will be mailed a postcard with the tickets for entry printed on the front. Members who join between February 3 and February 23rd can visit the will-call table at the Fairgrounds open Friday from 12 – 4 and again from 6 – 9 p.m. to pick up their tickets. Memberships can be purchased and tickets picked up on Friday from 12 – 4 and again from 6 – 9 p.m. Membership cost is $15 at the door. 

If a membership was purchased and tickets were not received they will be at the will call table. NO MORE TICKETS WILL BE MAILED AFTER FEBRUARY 10th! 

Volunteers

Volunteers can continue to sign up online at www.mlsfriends.org. Volunteer limited shopping is Thursday, February 23rd from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and is open to ALL volunteers. ANY volunteer and ANY non-profit can shop for FREE on Sunday evening Feb 26th at 6 p.m. 

Volunteer shifts: 

  • Move In Sunday, February 19 from 8- 12 or 12 – 4 
  • Set Up Monday, February 20 from 8 – 12 or 12 – 4 
  • Set Up Tuesday, February 21 from 8 -12 
  • Friday Night, February 24 from 5 – 9:30 p.m. 
  • Saturday and Sunday, February 25 and 26 8:30 – 11:30, 11:30 – 2:30 and 2:30 – 5:30

Should MLS Staff choose to volunteer, that time is on their own. (Not paid and not part of their work schedule) 

There are over 700,000 books at the sale that are withdrawn from the library and donated by the community. There are over 40 categories of books as well as rare and first editions, and two areas for purchase: 

  • General Area – hardbacks are $1 and paperbacks are $.50 
  • Collector’s Choice Area – books are individually priced but usually under $10 

Friends of the Metropolitan Library System generously give proceeds from the Booksale back to MLS for services and programs. Some examples of projects sponsored by the Friends over the last year include:
