CONNECT Forum Announcement - September 2013

Date: Sept 10, 2013
Time: 2:00 - 4:00 pm
Location: Midwest City Library
Let’s face it – the telegraph and carrier pigeon are no longer effective means of communication and professional development. And Library journals are great but the information only flows in one direction. Today’s well-informed professional librarian has dozens of websites, blogs, lists, and video channels at the fingertips. But which ones are the best for keeping up with the profession and which are the best for networking?
The next CONNECT Forum is about, well, connecting. Come to the forum ready to share your favorite methods and tools for staying connected and keeping sharp on library trends and news. Your colleagues would like to hear from you and you might learn a thing or two as well! Later in the session we’ll have a discussion about what’s up on the web with MLS featuring Kellie Delaney, Manager of Web Development and Support and Tim Spindle, Virtual Librarian. Learn what their roles are in the system and where web services are headed in future and share your ideas with them as well. And of course we’ll have one of CONNECT’s famous challenging activities to get the ball rolling!
FURTHER INFORMATION
This is how we used to meet up virtually in the Clinton Era. Hmmm…somehow it was more exciting on a black screen with green text.
Award-winning library blog Adventures of Library Girl has a nice series on Zombie Librarians. If you’re short on time check out her snappy Zombie Librarians slideshare.
Of course, the great thing about virtual networking is you’re So Much Cooler Online.
You really should come and CONNECT with live people – lest you develop Virtual Insanity (was Jamiroquai a prophet or what?)
You’re coming to CONNECT, right?! Like this page or drop a comment to let us know you’re coming!

Out of curiosity, is this event open to all staff?
"Hi Lessa! The Connect Forum is intended for public service librarians and associate librarians but can include librarians who are not assigned to work "on the desk" and serving in another capacity."
I plan to attend CONNECT and look forward to it. I will start thinking about tools to keep me sharp.
I plan to attend the meeting and look forward to discovering new sites.
