Online Resource Center

Print
Type of Pilot Project:
Public Service
Describe Project and Impact:
Create a digital resource center with free downloads of educational materials for our customers, day care centers, homeschool associations, etc.
Project Description and Expected Outcomes:
Project-- the library offers downloadable educational resources that can be used by daycare centers, home school associations, or individual use. These resources can be updated or added to quarterly and tie into our programming theme. This would also give us opportunities to recommend more library services. Educational resources could include, but are not limited to, monthly storytimes created by our librarians. Each month we could feature one of our librarians and post a storytime booklist, rhymes and songs used, finger plays, craft activities, etc. These could connect with one of our library themes each month. We could also create/design printable PDF downloads of early childhood educational games that teach numbers, addition, colors, etc (I have created some examples of this). We could also include older age group projects and STEM/STEAM curriculum for download with walkthroughs on how to lead the class. We could create a webpage that has a breakdown of each age group. By clicking the age group the individual is taken to all the librarian/MLS staff-created and -approved curricula. All of our curricula could have our logo at the bottom with a link and tag line of where they can find more resources for download. This would work really well if daycare centers used the downloads/curriculum and they went home with the child for parents to see.
Why should we select this project?:
This would allow the Metro Library System to pave the way for free public education, not just within our own doors but other education centers. Connection to the Core Values: Library Members First and Integrity and Trust in Us and by Us- We are committed to seeing success in our community by providing them with free educational resources, allowing them to provide quality education to their members, customers, and children. We increase confidence in the services we offer by investing in our local community and their growth. We are good stewards of community resources because we pour our specialties back into the community. Respect for Members and Each Other- we value our staff by offering an outlet for ideas and contributions and we showcase their strengths for the benefit of the community. Freedom to Learn and Commitment to Learning as Enjoyment- We stand at the forefront of free education and offer more outlets for free learning and resources. We combine fun and education for maximum learning.
Constraints, Limitations, or Dependencies:
The time to put it together.
Source of Inspiration:

Life Church- They follow a mindset of irrational generosity and offer all of their curriculum and messages free to everyone and other churches. This allows other churches who do not have the same resources or staff to grow and flourish.
