Welcome, Introductions, Announcements
Emily welcomed everyone and introduced Mallory Weigl the new young adult librarian for the Village Library.
LaVetta shared how she handled a complaint about the upcoming Music of Iraq program. A customer was very upset about the program and LaVetta remained calm and used the form Individuals Comments on Library Materials and Information Access and crossed out the word materials and wrote in the word “Program.” This seemed to diffuse the situation.
Dana related a situation in which she was in a library and approached a parent with a baby and asked them if they were reading to their baby. She talked to them about the importance of reading to their baby and she gave them a board book from the Baby’s First book collection. She encouraged everyone to do this in their libraries.
Dana talked about her experience with witnessing the value of programming for military families. She said we are often a lifeline to the community because we are free, we are open and we give people something to do by providing such great programming opportunities for people to come to.
Summer at the Library
The staff training DVD was presented and Emily walked the programmers through this year’s process and answered questions.
Teen Advisory Boards
John talked about his success with teen advisory board programs and handed out some materials with suggested activities. Emily shared some links to TAB resources on the web and provided a handout with ideas for an initial meeting.
