Safety Committee Meeting Minutes for March 12, 2013

Discussion:
New hire safety training is now included in Goal. Required training for new hires will include:
- Review of MLS Safety Manual
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Hazardous Communication
- Bloodborne Pathogens
- Lockout/Tagout (affected and authorized employees)
All safety training will be LMS based beginning with the 2nd quarter. Employees will be notified via email when training is due. Supervisors will receive email alert from HUM reminding about training due. Supervisors will need to look at LMS to view incomplete training.
Safety Training Procedures have been revised to reflect new required training and reporting procedures. The updates will be included in the new Safety Manual annual updates.
All safety programs in the MLS Safety Manual have been updated to indicate all training records are kept in LMS and in Human Resources. There is no need for each library location to maintain copies of employees’ training records.
Denise reported we have had one Worker’s Comp reportable injury this year.
Melody reported that Edmond has changed some of their procedures for shelving books. They have streamlined their system by shelving books directly from carts instead of sorting from shelves in the back room. This has eliminated the need for many of the carts and has allowed them to reorganize the space.
Chris reported Midwest City had a fire drill (due to smoke in the building) in February during open hours. Everyone followed the evacuation procedures and the fire department declared all clear.
A tour of the Edmond library followed discussions. The committee found some boxes of ceiling tiles and paint stored in the pump room that need to be stored elsewhere. Overall, the facility is very clean and well organized. All required documentation was present and current.
