Safety Committee Meeting Minutes for July 9, 2013

Discussion:

Review of last minutes had no changes or discussions.

Lori reported that we have had no reportable injuries for Worker’s Comp this quarter.

Safety training for 3rd quarter will be a review of Bloodborne Pathogens procedures.  This training will be available on LMS in the next two weeks.  Human Resources will notify staff when the training is available. 

A new powerpoint training presentation will be added to LMS addressing the new Hazard Communication Globally Harmonized System.  Every employee must complete this training by December 1, 2013.  The training covers the changes in chemical labeling and the new format of safety data sheets.

After discussion, it was decided that this additional required training will be added to the 4th quarter training. 

Around the Table:

Chris suggested that we consider visiting the Extensions for an upcoming committee meeting.  Because meeting space is limited at most of the Extensions, we will try to schedule a time when the group can tour those locations in one day.

A tour of the facility followed discussions.  The following was noted:

Overall, the facility is very clean and organized.  We found no issues with lighting, electrical or chemical hazards.

Inspection of all fire extinguishers was last done June 4 which is just over 30 days ago.  Debbie will follow up with Maintenance to ensure the monthly inspections are completed timely.

The hard copy of the MLS Safety Manual was missing.  Staff is able to access the current manual online however; a hard copy must be maintained in case of a technical failure preventing employees from accessing information.
