Classification and Compensation Study
A Classification and Compensation Study investigates an organization's classification plan (where jobs fall in a ranking of sophistication or difficulty) and compensation schedule (the range of pay rates an employee can receive in each classification group). This kind of study is done on regular intervals, usually every 5 years at the Metropolitan Library System. Our last Class and Comp study was done in 2010-2011.
We encourage feedback and engagement as the Metropolitan Library System proceeds with this project. This committee is your link to the work being done. Please reach out with your thoughts, opinions, concerns, and encouragement. You can communicate with us by commenting on this page and the Project Update pages, by emailing one or all of us, or by setting up a time to meet one of us.
The Singer Group has also created a confidential hotline email for their work with us. Email [email protected] if you have information that you would like to share confidentially. They will keep your email confidential, will not share names or specific situations with anyone from Metropolitan Library System, and have a commitment to reply within 48 hours, often sooner.
Job titles, pay ranges, and job descriptions within an organization can become out-of-sync with the typical pay for similar jobs. This can be due to internal factors (e.g. changing responsibilities for a position) or external factors (e.g. multiple years of low economic growth). Organizations undergo classification and compensation studies to ensure that pay is fair, competitive and equitable both internally and externally.
Ensure that the Metropolitan Library System is providing a pay structure for all positions that is fair, competitive, and equitable both internally and externally. Fulfill the Metropolitan Library Commission's goal to be a salary leader in our area.

It has been a while since we had any updates and the C&CS is off schedule. Is this almost ready?
I tried to look at the file for the schedule a while ago, but it is corrupted and I cannot view the contents with any formatting.
Hi Gatlin,
You're right, it was corrupted when I tried to open it too. I have re-uploaded the file, so it should work now. It is still the old timeline, however.

Hi Kevin,
Great question! You're absolutely right about it being delayed. I'm gathering info to provide as complete an answer as possible. I'll get back to your question as soon as I am able.
