  1. Firearms / Illegal Weapons/Illegal Substances
    1. Reporting
Any employee or volunteer who becomes aware of anyone violating the SH 512 policy should report it to the Security Manager or the Director of Human Resources who will investigate. In addition staff members aware of a violation of SH 512 involving a volunteer, contractor, vendor or customer should report it by submitting an Unusual Incident form.
    2. Compliance
Employees who do not abide by the spirit as well as the letter of the SH 512 policy are subject to disciplinary action including termination of employment. Employees who make false and malicious complaints of weapons or explosive chemicals being brought into library facilities, as opposed to complaints which, even if erroneous, are made in good faith, will be subject to disciplinary action.
  2. Violence in the Workplace
    1. Reporting
Any person experiencing or witnessing imminent danger or actual violence involving weapons or personal injury should immediately call 911. A staff member then needs to notify the agency manager, designated person in charge or security personnel, if present. Additionally, employees and volunteers are encouraged to report behavior that they reasonably believe poses a potential for workplace violence as defined in SH 512. It is important that all members of the library system take this responsibility seriously to effectively maintain a safe working environment. Complaints of threats of physical violence or verbal abuse from other employees should be handled through the Complaint Resolution Policy SH 511 and Compliant Resolution Procedure SH 511.1. Employees violating this provision are subject to disciplinary action including termination of employment in addition to any criminal prosecution. Members of the public, whether customers, volunteers, visitors, vendors or contractor personnel, are subject to revocation of library privileges and/or contracts for violation of this provision in addition to criminal prosecution. Complaints of threats of physical violence or verbal abuse from customers or vendors should be reported using the procedure for reporting unusual incidents.
    2. Compliance
Employees who do not abide by the spirit as well as the letter of the SH 512 policy are subject to disciplinary action including termination of employment. Employees who make false and malicious complaints of workplace violence, as opposed to complaints which, even if erroneous, are made in good faith, will be subject to disciplinary action.
