AL 300 Responsibilities of Customers
AL 320.2 Appeals Process for Guests
Adopted Date:
04/24
These procedures provide the process by which a guest can appeal a suspension or ban from the Metropolitan Library System.
Procedures
- The guest will provide a written statement to the Library Manager of the branch that recommended or authorized their exclusion from the library.
- The written statement will ask that their exclusion be reconsidered, provide any mitigating factors, and present evidence that they no longer present a threat or disruption to the library environment.
- The Library Manager will consult their Regional Director and the Security Manager to consider the appeal.
- If the guest was banned for six months or less, this team will make the final decision on the appeal.
- If the guest was banned for more than six months, the Library Manager will make their recommendation to the Guest Services Leadership Team, including the Security Manager. This team will make their recommendation to the Chief Executive Officer, who will make the final decision on the appeal.
- If the appeal is awarded, within two weeks of receiving the appeal the guest will be notified in writing of their welcome back to the library environment by the Library Manager (for bans six months or less) or the Chief Guest Officer (for bans over six months).
- If the appeal is denied, the guest will be notified of the decision in writing by the Library Manager or the Chief Guest Officer within two weeks of receiving the appeal.
- Upon the end of the ban, whether or not it was successfully appealed, the guest will be required to meet with a Library Manager before resuming services in the library. This conversation is to welcome the guest back, review the situation that led to the ban, and set expectations for future behavior.
