Type of Pilot Project:
Library/Department Support
Additional Contributors:
Meaghan Hunt Wilson
Describe Project and Impact:
Develop a platform on the intranet where all staff can stay updated on the big or system-wide projects others are working on.
Project Description and Expected Outcomes:
Develop a platform on the intranet to display all system-wide or large-impact projects. Managers/project managers will post any projects they are working on. They will periodically post updates on the project's status. This will help us see what cool things others are working on and improve transparency for staff. Anyone will be able to look up projects that impact or interest them, and locate updates, status, timeline, etc. Much like these Pilot Project submissions, we will be able to get ideas from others and be inspired to try new things ourselves.
How will this project improve workplace efficiency and effectiveness?:
We do not have a centralized method to track projects that have been attempted at each location. This results in a duplication of effort across different locations that implement projects without referencing how similar projects were done elsewhere. Managers do not have the time to survey every other location to see if they have attempted something similar to what they are planning. This means that managers are not always able to learn from others’ mistakes or successes. The project-tracking platform would present managers with a method to see what others are doing and provide the opportunity for shared advice and recommendations.
Creating a project tracking system would improve transparency and divergent thinking. A project tracking system would introduce us all to the risks others are taking, and inspire us to suggest or pursue other original ideas. This would also facilitate recognizing the great work others are doing, which would improve engagement, followed by more investment in one's work.
Why should we select this project?:
This project would improve transparency, which has been indicated as a source of concern for staff. It would limit duplication of efforts by making it easy for anyone who is planning a project to check if any other locations have done something similar, and get advice. Lastly, it would allow us to celebrate the cool things others are doing! All of this would contribute to a happier and more efficient workplace.
Constraints, Limitations, or Dependencies:
