Books & Bumpers

Print
Type of Pilot Project:
Public Service
Describe Project and Impact:
A web series dedicated to librarians talking about books while driving around OKC.
Project Description and Expected Outcomes:
Due to the wildly successful web series Comedians in Cars and The Late Late Show with James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke, I am proposing a similar web series focusing on what we do best: book discussions. Pairing a librarian with a local author, play a segment of their audiobook if possible, and talk about the author’s favorite book, books that made an impact on his/her life and their #ireadbecause all the while navigating Oklahoma County. We would also highlight all of the books and resources discussed in the video to prompt a download or checkout of those materials. We have most of the equipment needed to complete this pilot (library van, video camera, and mic).
Why should we select this project?:
We are under-utilizing the platform YouTube provides to expand our message. By creating consistent original content, we will see an increase in video views, conversions (click-throughs) and deeper engagement with our library brand. Librarians are masters at organizing content and making it useful. Pairing our expertise in books and metadata, we can make video content that is not only relevant but discoverable.

I agree!
You wrote: "We are under-utilizing the platform YouTube provides to expand our message. About two months ago, I went to the YouTube channel for MLS and I noticed there is a lack of recent videos. I have young family members that go to YouTube often to check out brand pages, get instructions, etc. I thought it would be a neat idea if we could have free webinars/or YouTube-like videos made by IT on computer usage, and other videos in English/Spanish on how to access content and items in the library. I feel this is a modern innovation (along with other social media outlets) that we are missing out on. This could really give us the edge to attract interest from community members which could leads to better market penetration, more new cards issued and happiness for all!

I agree. The more often
I agree. The more often libraries produce fun media (this is one of my all time favorites https://youtu.be/5HbSOZcfu2Y), the more accessible we become to ALL members of the community.
