Facilities Maintenance Related Projects
Midwest City Public Restroom Renovation – The project is complete. The restrooms are now open for public use.
Downtown Library – Studio Architecture is still working on the Downtown signage for the northwest corner of the building facing Hudson Avenue/Park Avenue. A traffic study is being done to determine the most viable solution for patron parking to continue curbside pickup permanently. Maintenance is working on the repair of two employee exterior doors that were discovered to not be locking correctly in the event of a power outage.
Wright Library – New gates have been installed on the west side of the building to help reduce transient activity and vandalism.
Choctaw – We are continuing to communicate with the City of Choctaw and work with the City Manager to resolve the issue with water not draining correctly and causing erosion issues at the Choctaw Library.
Capitol Hill Library - Wynn construction will be repainting the front entrance and the tower on the northwest corner with a paint that will not fade as quickly as the original did. Studio Architecture is still working on the completion of the new signage for the northwest corner of the building. Wynn Construction will also be replacing some of the landscaping that did not survive the first two years. The artist has installed anchor pulls for the public art piece to be used for suspension of the art.
Access Controls – We are working on a system to gradually improve building access by centralizing this to allow for greater efficiency. This new system will allow for maintenance to make access changes remotely.
Upcoming and Ongoing Projects for FY2021 – We will be working to complete the following projects for FY2021: LED lighting upgrades for Midwest City, ADA compliance assessments for Community Libraries, millwork projects on 4th floor of Downtown Library, wayfinding signage to be installed at Bethany, Midwest City, the Village, Capitol Hill, and Del City.
Capital Projects
New Del City Library – Construction is on schedule. All drywall is in place and has received at least a first coat of paint. Windows are in and most doors are in. Final electrical install is ongoing.
Belle Isle Renovation/Addition – Demolition is ongoing. Asbestos’ abatement is not yet complete; however, Wynn Construction does not believe that this will impact their construction schedule. Earthwork for new additions should begin the week of October 5th.
New Almonte Library – The City Council approved the authorization to negotiate a contract for architectural/engineering and design services for the new Almonte Library on September 1, 2020. The project is awarded to Hornbleek Blatt Architects of Edmond, Oklahoma. The contract price for design services is not disclosed but the construction budget for the project is $5.7 million. The City is in the process of negotiating the contract for the design services. We have reviewed a copy of the agreement.
Edmond Library #2 – We toured a site with the City of Edmond on September 2nd to evaluate its potential for a second Edmond Library. We provided feedback that the site visited was not ideal and we had concerns about the site to include the location and its lack of visibility. We plan to tour a potential site for the location of a 24-hour Library Kiosk with the City in October 2020.
Ralph Ellison- The window replacement and water intrusion project is ongoing. The general contractor has been delayed on this project by the weather and by unforeseen construction challenges.
The roofing part of the project which will divert rainwater to the east side of the building is complete. Inside the roof drain pipes have been installed and covered. Only tape/mud and painting remain to be completed.
Southern Oaks – Demolition of clearstory windows is ongoing. The general contractor has learned from the challenges at Ralph Ellison and this project will be completed in a timelier manner as a result.
The construction for the Southern Oaks Health and Wellness Campus and library sign is in progress. The excavation for the sign footing is complete and concrete should be poured soon. Oklahoma Natural Gas installed a new gas line to the meter which they moved from inside the mechanical yard to exterior of the building.
