Describe Project and Impact:
Library or Libraries will have a paid professional expert to assist in job application
Project Description and Expected Outcomes:
The library system would pay a person or persons to spend time with people who need help in applying for jobs. While librarians and computer specialists can help with the basics, a person who specializes in writing resumes and filling out job applications would offer one-on-one advice to help the job search be more successful. This expert or experts could schedule appointments and go to multiply locations.
Why should we select this project?:
I notice that some people applying for jobs are really struggling since they've never written a resume before. Even those that have may not have updated their personal information for a number of years can use help. I am referring to the content of the information they're submitting, rather than computer help like computer templates, although that's useful too. Having someone who is an expert in the field who can schedule and spend time with a person can be a great help. I think this program would appeal to both new members and long-time users who find themselves in need of advice.
Constraints, Limitations, or Dependencies:
Finding a qualified, helpful person or persons to do the job. Getting the word out and having people schedule time and come prepared. Budget would depend on whether the person is full or part time.
Source of Inspiration:
I went to a library conference, and they had a place/service where hiring librarians reviewed resumes and offered suggestions that would make it more likely for the job seeker to get noticed.
