Eric Litwin Author Visit

David Newyear dresses up as Pete the CatWe were fortunate enough to have children’s author Eric Litwin visit a couple of our libraries.  Eric was in town to visit a number of schools and we were able to snag him for three programs at Belle Isle and Southern Oaks.

For those of you who don’t know Eric Litwin, he is the author of the first four Pete the Cat books and the new series The Nuts.  His books are playful, fun, and each one has a catchy song to go along with it.  In addition to being a great writer, he is also a fantastic entertainer.  As you can see from the videos below, he really knows how to get kids excited about reading and keep them engaged.

We had an amazing turn out at all of the performances, including an appearance by none other than Pete himself (courtesy of David Newyear and his wife, who created the amazing costume).  We also gave away around 600 signed copies of the Pete the Cat books to children and families who attended the programs.

At one of the performances a grandfather from Perry, Oklahoma came because his granddaughter loves Pete the Cat, but she was too sick to attend.  When Eric found out about this he not only Skyped with the granddaughter before the performance, but allowed her grandfather to Skype the entire performance so the girl could see it.

If you were not able to make it to one of the shows, are you going to cry?  Goodness no.  Just watch one of these videos below.  And remember, it’s all good.
