CONNECT Minutes for June 2011

2. Introduction of Speaker – Ruby Soutiere, MSL
   “Reader’s Advisory Sources” – Ruby spoke to the group about additional sources for finding great reads for customers, especially on sources to find books for men. Ruby cited many online resources that librarians can use in addition to Novelist and catalog suggestions. She also answered questions for the group.
3. Shelfari.com and LibraryThing.com presentations
   Brief overviews of these online reading communities were given by Angela Thornton and Kim Edwards. Other online reading communities were listed for further exploration.
4. Table Talks
   An “expert” staff member in the genres of Suspense (Angela Thornton), Inspirational Fiction (Barbara Beasley), Comic/Graphic Novels (Kim Edwards), Paranormal Romance (Susan Hutchins), and Street Lit/Urban Fiction (Shanelle Jackson) were each placed at a table and the rest of the group rotated to each table for a more in-depth look at the genre. Reading lists and/or author suggestions were available for the group to take away with them.

Next meeting: September 20th at Midwest City Library; topic will be technology related.
