CONNECT Forum Announcement - March 2013
Meeting Information:
Date: March 12, 2013
Time: 2:00-4:00 pm
Location: Capitol Hill Library
Topic
Are we getting our RDA? No, not “recommended daily allowance.” RDA is Resource Description and Access. And the answer is yes, we are. In the coming weeks the Cataloging department will begin implementing the new RDA standard. The new standard is intended as a replacement for the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules 2 which many of us wrestled with in library school. What will the changes mean for MLS for both librarians and for our customers?
Come to the next CONNECT Forum and find out all about the switchover as Cataloging Manager Pauline Rodriguez-Atkins fields questions from our moderator and from you about RDA and cataloging in general. We’ll also get reacquainted with this specialized field of librarianship with fun and challenging activities that remind us how catalogs are constructed and of the importance standardized rules have in our daily work lives. Early reports from Capitol Hill are that they will provide us with some special refreshments as well. So come join with fellow librarians around the system for an afternoon of camaraderie and information sharing!
Please see the resources page for more information about RDA and cataloging to spark your interest!

I have just read a great one-page article in School Library Journal (March 2013, page 16) that is pretty exciting on this change. If you didn't get to make it to Capitol Hill Library for the Connect Forum, this is a quick overview. This is going to be amazing.
