Ice Breaker & Summer Volunteers Update - Heidi Port 1:35 pm

Heidi started off with an ice breaker, which can be used for volunteers during the summer. Each programmer drew a picture telling in their own drawing how they would change the world and things around them. Heidi stated that doing an ice breaker will help volunteer supervisors get to know their volunteers and allow interaction amongst their peers. Heidi stated volunteer expectations and the many opportunities our library can offer them. There have been a few goals set for volunteers and they are to gain job training and work experience, to develop skills including self-motivation and initiative, and to encourage camaraderie with like-minded teens. There will be 5 volunteer opportunities this year; Celebration Station Volunteer, Reading Buddy Volunteer, Event Assistance & Craft Programs, Library Career Overview / Job Shadowing, and Summer Volunteer Squad (North Region).

STEAM Kits (All Ages) – Emily Williams 2:13 pm

STEAM Maker Kits were introduced and programmers had time for hands-on experiences with them.

MSL Update - Sadie Bruce 2:45 pm

Sadie introduced our new indie book platform, Biblioboard. She stated along with Biblioboard they will be releasing Self-E, a digital publishing service, which will allow members to upload their indie books to the Indie OK collection. In addition to going into that collection, the book will be reviewed by Library Journal. If the book is chosen as a Self-E Select title, it will go into the LJ Select collections to be viewed across the country. To help authors get their books in publishing shape, they’ll be providing Pressbooks. Pressbooks lets authors quickly format their manuscripts and add a cover. The Self-E component will debut in April but Biblioboard is available now. Training on Self-E and Pressbooks should begin in March.
