Bio:  

I grew up in a small Texas town that had more cows than people.  My husband and I met online via World of Warcraft and it did not take much convincing for me to move to Oklahoma with him after finishing college.  We got married at one of those cute little chapels in Las Vegas after dating for 5 years and currently live in Yukon with our 3 cats, dog, and turtle.

Since I graduated from college, I have mostly worked in higher education.  After I received my MLS from Texas Woman’s University, I worked as an Associate Librarian, and then as a Teen Librarian at the Bethany Library.   After a year, I returned to higher education as an Academic Advisor for Redlands Community College. 

When I saw the job posting for a Learning and Development Coordinator, I knew that it would be a perfect fit!  I feel like this position is a great mix of my library and education backgrounds and I am so excited to support MLS staff with all their learning and development needs!

Changes to the Access Workshops starting June 2019

Access learners will have one week after attending their training to log into EduBrite and take a short 10-12 question assessment to maximize classroom learning and engagement. Learners will have five attempts to score 100%. It is timed at 45 minutes. Once they open the quiz, they must complete it. EduBrite will not let them navigate away from the quiz.

If learners are unable to score 100% in five (5) attempts, they should notify their supervisor and me to identify their knowledge gap(s), correct their knowledge, then I will coordinate with L&D to reopen the assessment for them to retest. Once they earn their 100% they will be marked awarded and will receive their completion certificate and be able to take the next level.

Teaching Civility in the Workplace – 50(m) 17(s)

Focusing on eradicating negative behaviors isn’t always enough to create a happy workplace. Employees and managers also need to learn what they should do to make their environment a respectful and pleasant one. In this course, join Catherine Mattice Zundel as she shares how to create a happier, healthier workplace by teaching civility and setting a good example with your own behavior. Learn about negative behavior as a social phenomenon, what microaggressions look like in action, and how to replace negative language with positive words. Plus, Jenny shares tips for getting your polished letter directly into the hands of decision-makers.

Excel: Advanced Formulas and Functions – 4(h) 24(m)

Follow along with Excel expert Dennis Taylor as he demystifies the hundreds of formulas and functions available in Excel. Dennis starts with a few critical formula shortcuts that will speed up your work, then covers a variety of functions, such as VLOOKUP, MATCH, and INDEX, statistical functions, text functions, and date and time, math, text, and information functions. Dennis provides practical examples to help viewers easily transition to using Excel's most powerful formulas and functions in real-world scenarios. 

Excel Pivot Table Tips (2019) – 1(h) 38(m)

Go from beginner to power PivotTable user. Learn how to use Excel PivotTables and PivotCharts for powerful data analysis. Chris Dutton leads this practical guide, filled with lots of hands-on exercises and real-world use cases. He shows how to structure your data; change table layouts and styles; leverage design controls; perform sorting, filtering, and grouping; and create interactive dashboards. Creating Positive Conversations with Challenging Customers – 33(m) 20(s)

What do you do when faced with a customer who's fuming over a delay, cancellation, or objection to a policy? How can you adequately address their issue when your interaction starts off on such a sour note? In this course, Myra Golden shares approaches that can help you reframe such conversations, and use your words and actions to put a positive slant on an otherwise negative situation. Along the way, follow Katie, a young professional, as she prepares to give a presentation to the executives at her organization.

In this course, instructor Mory Fontanez describes how to identify and communicate individual, team, and organizational values. Using real-world examples and scenarios, Mory explains how to identify personal and professional values for yourself and your team and establish company-wide values, which you can use to connect with your customers.

Access Workshops

Workshop1
In Workshop 1, you will be introduced to the CARL.X and CARL.Connect software. You will learn tips and tricks for navigating around these programs and what to do when error messages appear. Attendees will also learn all about library accounts, including issuing new accounts, updating accounts, and handling blocks on accounts. Attendees will discuss common scenarios that frontline staff face regarding customer accounts and apply their knowledge by issuing practice accounts in both systems.

Workshop 2
Workshop 2 covers the most common circulation actions in CARL.X and CARL.Connect, including checkouts, returns, renewals, holds, and item maintenance. Attendees will discuss common scenarios that frontline staff face regarding circulation and handling problem materials. They will also apply their knowledge by practicing circulation procedures and item maintenance in both programs.

Workshop 3
Library Management teams will discover how to use reports and statistics that can help them make good decisions when managing their collections.  This session will go into detail about Carl-X reports and collectionHQ evaluation tools.  It will also offer an opportunity for the management teams to share ideas and tips for using Carl-X and collectionHQ.
