Discussion:

The committee reviewed OSHA updates regarding the new Hazard Communication regulations and required employee training.  All employees must be trained on the new Safety Data Sheet and labeling format by December 1, 2013.  The Oklahoma Department of Labor provided some resources for training and new materials will be published on the intranet to satisfy the training requirement.

The group discussed the need to continue the subscription for the Top Safety Newsletter.  Considering the new required training that will be implemented this year, it was decided to cancel the subscription.

New hire safety training for the 4th quarter is 100% compliant, however, there are three employees who have not completed 4th quarter training, two have not completed Hazard Communication training and four have not completed Bloodborne Pathogens training.

Human Resources will revise their notification to supervisors alerting them of missing required training prior to employee appraisals.

There were 12 worker’s comp claims for 2012.  All except one have been closed or released.  The final one is expected to be closed within the next month.

The committee discussed needed revision to the Safety Manual as part of the annual review.  Updates will be made to the manual and, upon committee approval, will be distributed to all agencies and departments during February.

The review of the Safety Manual revealed many locations do not have correct information in manual because updates have not been added properly or not at all.  This year, all manuals will be completely updated – no replacement pages will be sent.

A tour of the Del City facility followed discussions and the following violations were noted:

  • The MSDS manual is not updated with current information
  • Exit sign in the staff workroom is not lit.
  • Boxes are blocking the exit door
  • Electronic box located in the staff break room attached to extension cord dangling loose on the wall.

Devin will report all repair needs to Maintenance.
