Items for Discussion:
- Introductions of members and guests. George Tocco took a different role in MLS, so he stepped down from his spot on the committee. Thanks to Mark and Devin for serving this year. We will be adding 3 new members to the committee effective 1/1/2025. Let me know if you have any suggestions for a Library Manager or a Department representative. Received several suggestions for new members.
- Assign committee member to take/post meeting minutes (Mark S.)
- Update & Discussion on workers’ compensation injuries (Jeff): Numbers and more information to come.
- Group discussed recent incidents, claims, and resolutions.
- Discussion of potential disciplinary/training approach for performing unsafe acts while doing your job.
- Review and Discuss Completed Quarterly Safety Checklists: Any issues?
- Add 911 testing—Per Dennis, all branches should do this quarterly to make sure that they can dial out in an emergency. Will need some assistance to get this added to the checklist.
- DN-specific issues – escape route maps not clearly displayed on second floor; fire pull stations on second floor
- Maps and pull stations meet code; fire marshal annual inspections haven’t resulted in issues; upcoming inspection at DN – will check with fire marshal
- WA – additional fire alarm strobes and smoke detectors have been added to increase safety at WA
- Review Incidents/Accidents. Review these as a group. Any concerns?
- Group discussed recent incidents and resolutions. No real issues here.
- Fire Drills/Evacuation Plans—Ongoing project.
- Risk/Ergonomic Assessments—JD from Insurica did a workflow assessment at Service Center on 10/23/2024. He reviewed the sorter room and concerns with pushing bins.
- Push/pull meter was used to determine weight of moving carts at the Service Center.
- All were less than 10 pounds.
- Staff has been receptive to JD’s recommendations to alternating tasks throughout their shifts.

- Quarterly Safety Video Training Topics for Staff—What do you think we should have staff do for 2025?
- Two quarterly topics (slips, trips, falls and bloodborne pathogens) are required – two are optional.
- Jeff recommended a series of everyday safety basics videos for the two optional trainings. Title of the training series is “Workplace Safety Essentials.”
- Group was supportive.
