Meeting Date / Time:
Wednesday, March 29, 2023 - 2:00pm
Meeting Location:
Capitol Hill Library
Attendees:
Brandon Bredy (CompSource), Steve Butts (MTC), Jeff Cover (HUM), Risa Jensen-Jones (PSA), Dennis Letter (SEC), Todd Podzemny (SO), John Rahhal (BUS), Chris Stofel (CH)
Introductions were made.
Update and Discussion on Workers' Compensation Injuries.
- Discussed the themes and causes of recent injuries.
- Reminders that injuries need to be reported in a timely manner by both employees and supervisors.
Consult Care
- Managers have been assigned training on the new 24/7 nurse hotline offered through CompSource. Managers have been asked to speak to staff at their staff meetings about the new service.
- Hotline should be used whenever possible, particularly if there is a question of whether treatment might be needed. With true emergencies, the injured employees should be taken to an approved urgent care clinic, or an emergency room right away.
- Calling the hotline can take 20-30 minutes for a thorough conversation. An average call should only last about 15-20 minutes.
Quarterly Safety Checklists
- No questions were raised on those submitted so far.
- Jeff and John Rahhal are working on the new safety checklists for departments.
Review of incidents/accidents
- One vehicle involved in a no-fault, no-injury incident.
Sharps handling
- No concerns for the process so far.
- Sharps containers should have arrived at the locations now.
- Maintenance has had some challenges in getting managers set up with access to the system due to billing setup issues. This was resolved, and managers should receive more information soon.
Response Plan for How to Handle Drug Use in Libraries
- Jeff and Dennis will meet to discuss a guide for employees on how to handle drug use in libraries.
Terminator Spray
- The new custodial company uses a different disinfectant/sanitizing product than Terminator. Jeff will send out an email to Xchange that the Terminator spray will no longer be used. Bottles should be collected for the custodial company to dispose of. Staff can use disinfecting wipes (Clorox, etc.) since the wipes are well-stocked and available for ordering. Use these wipes for wiping down tables and hard surfaces, instead of spray.
Fire Drills/Evacuation Plans
- Evacuation maps are not required in one-story buildings and are not required in every space of multi-story buildings. Maps can also become outdated when furniture is rearranged.
- Dennis and Jeff will plan fire drills around the system in the coming months.
Safety Sheets for Staff Meetings
- Intended to be a 5-10 minute refresher each month.
- The topics could be more based on what worker's compensation injuries are occurring to be even more relevant to current issues.
Incentives for exemplary safety performance
- Could provide library swag or receive a kudos on their performance development.
