Meeting Location:
Belle Isle Library
Attendees:
Dennis Letter (SEC), Galen Boydstun (CS), Jason Wiggins (DN), Jeff Cover (HUM), Mandie Fischer (HUM), Steve Butts (MTC), Erin Bedford (PSA)
Guests:
George Tocco (BI)

Items for Discussion:

  • Introductions of members and guests.  Thanks to George here at Belle Isle for letting us use their library to host our meeting.
  • Assign committee member to take/post meeting minutes (Erin)
  • Update & Discussion on workers’ compensation injuries (Jeff)
    • 3 claims that did not need medical intervention since we met last
    • 4 active claims
    • Everyone needs to stay safety aware!
  • New Work Comp Claim/Investigation Form:  Jeff sent copies of the proposed forms to committee members to review at last meeting. Need to set up meeting with Brandon, one committee member, and Jeff to discuss further. Who wants to volunteer?
    • Mandie volunteered to look into that with Jeff
  • Consult Care:  24/7 nurse hotline offered through CompSource. Need a volunteer to review this and determine if this is something we want to offer. Would need to communicate it to staff if we want to use it.
    • This would be for Worker’s Comp. If it is a normal health question staff would be directed to their normal provider.
    • Mandie will be looking into this as she had a similar program at a previous job.
  • Review and Discuss Completed Quarterly Safety Checklists: Any issues?
    • No issues reported, only a few 4th quarter lists were in the folder at this point. Locations have until Dec 31st to get them submitted.
  • New safety checklist forms- Erin distributed new forms to all LM’s, and they have started using them effective 4th Quarter 2022.
  • New Safety Checklist Forms for Departments:  Want to extend using these checklists for each of the departments in system. Need help from couple of volunteers to decide what we need to include on these checklists.
    • Erin and Galen will help with determining what should be on the safety checklists.
  • New Maintenance Checklist Forms:  Steve and Albert from Maintenance Dept. are reviewing document.
  • Review Incidents/Accidents. (No new ones to report)
  • Issues with handling sharps.  Moving forward with this on 12/1. Containers have been ordered. Will need to coordinate with the branches to get this set up soon.
    • Managers will be the only people trained and certified to pack the boxes at this point.
    • MTC does have the sharps containers at the Service Center
    • Locations all got the boxes to pack up and send in the sharps containers when the box is full.
  • Discuss Safety Manual status.
    • Manuals have been distributed to all branches and all departments.
    • Need to make sure that SDS’s get put in the HazCom manuals. Each location/department will need to print out their SDS’s from the Internet and file the sheets in their manuals. Use chemical inventory lists to find which items will need an SDS.
  • Fire Drills/Evacuation Plans—Ongoing. Jeff will be working with Dennis and CompSource on this. Goal will be to have drills more consistently in the future.
  • Situational Awareness Training—Dennis will be rolling this out after the first of the year with the help of L&D.  We need to help support this from a safety standpoint. It is a great program.
    • Employee safety will be touched on in the Situational Awareness training that Dennis is working on.
    • There will be location specific training
  • Maker Space Safety Standards—What do we need to have in these areas to be safe?
    • This will be an ongoing conversation
    • If an additional fire extinguisher is needed please let MTC know
  • Audits/walk-through: Will be conducting walk-through here at Belle Isle Library today after the meeting.

Next Safety Committee Mtg. on Wed. 1/25/2023 @ 2:00pm.  Need to decide where we want to meet (Location TBD). Future meetings will be conducted the last Wednesday of the month--every other month.
