Welcome to new committee members

  • Jeff welcomed the new committee members (Angel, Galen and Erin) for 2022.

Assign committee member to take/post meeting minutes

  • Erin was selected to be the minute taker.

Update and discussion on worker’s compensation injuries

  • Stephany let the group know that there were 5 active cases. They all involve a strain or sprain.
  • There is only one new case since the November meeting.
  • We talked about the importance of everyone working safely and the additional monthly safety topic that is to be covered at staff meetings that will help keep safety in mind for staff.

Review and discuss Quarterly Safety Checklists

  • Jeff let us know that the members of the safety committee need to review the Quarterly Safety Checklists and ensure that the issues/concerns are being addressed.

Review incidents/accidents

  • None to report.

Issues with handling sharps

  • Anthony had provided some information about a company that would collect the used sharps at the last safety committee meeting. It was determined to table the discussion at that time due to the cost.
  • Discussion was had and it was determined that we would move forward and looking at the possibility of adding it to the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

Safety Manual update

  • Jeff let us know that the safety manual is almost done. He has a meeting scheduled with the consultant on 1/28 to discuss some final questions.
  • Jeff anticipates that the updated manual will be available to discuss at the March meeting.
  • All locations will get an updated manual once it’s finalized.
  • There may be some discussions at XChange and Manager’s meetings to introduce it when it is available.

Monthly safety topics

  • CompSource has put together a monthly handout to talk about a different safety topic each month as a quick reminder.
  • All locations and departments are part of these reminders.
  • Some departments have already turned in their signed lists.
  • Remember to scan and email your signed staff list to Jeff by the end of the month.

New Safety Checklist

  • CompSource has put together a new safety checklist to replace the current Quarterly Facility Checklist. It is a blend of the current Quarterly Facilities Checklist and one that CompSource uses.
  • There have been some edits suggested and Jeff will be meeting with CompSource to discuss those.

Audits/walk-throughs

  • The Safety Committee will complete these when we meet in-person at a location. We will be meeting virtually for now.

Comments/Questions

  • Reminder that next month we will be sending out information about the chemical inventory lists. It will come out mid to late February.  This is an annual requirement that we review our lists and make any necessary updates/changes to them.
  • A question was asked about ice melt and how the locations deal with inclement weather. MTC gets out as much as possible to prep sidewalks in the case of ice, but the locations should all have ice melt on hand and be paying attention and adding salt to the walks if needed. Locations should check before the weather is expected to ensure that you have ice melt before the weather arrives.
  • A question was asked about diatomaceous earth as we had just put a pause on staff using it. We will revisit this at a future meeting.
