Items for Discussion:
- Update & Discussion on workers’ compensation injuries
- Went from Three to Five Claims since last safety committee meeting
- 4 of 5 claims are sprains and strains
- One claim is miscellaneous (exposure)
- Review Incidents/Accidents (no new staff involved incidents/accidents to report)
- Mobile Drug Testing/After-Hours Drug Testing— There was discussion about emergency drug testing/screening when accidents or incidents occur after the business hours of our regular testing site. For now, there are no firm commitments or arrangements with a 3rd party for onsite or after-hours drug screening. Jeff is reviewing 3 different options for this, and hopes to provide pricing information to the group at the next meeting.
- Terminator spray— We are still using the terminator spray in the libraries.
- Alcohol wipes – The alcohol wipes are more readily available and so we are no longer going to use the alcohol spray moving forward due to supply issues.
- Electrical/Mechanical Rooms— During our recent insurance renewal/walkthrough building inspections it was observed that mechanical rooms were being used as storage and this is a safety issue. Jeff Cover will send out an email and copy the safety committee to request for library managers to clean up the clutter and sign off when they do. There needs to be a 3ft clearance from the electrical control panel.
- Issues with handling sharps. - Right now, we do not provide a way for sharps to be properly disposed of in our public restrooms. Dennis will work with the business office to get pricing on solutions for sharps disposal to determine if there are financial means and resources to be able to implement this safety measure in the current fiscal year.
- Discuss Safety Manual-Draft Update and Action Plan for final review.
- Manual is still in draft stage. One small final section left to review. Hope to have it completed soon.
- CompSource has put together safety topics for library managers to discuss a different safety topic (5 minutes) at their library’s monthly staff meetings. Jeff plans to meet with PSM group to discuss further in either October or November. A monthly training topic calendar has been prepared for the library and department managers, and it will be best practice to follow this calendar to discuss these topics during monthly staff meetings.
- Brandon from CompSource has developed a new safety checklist form for us to use. Jeff will discuss this checklist with PSM group in either October or November. LaVetta has shared this checklist with the Regional Directors, and received feedback to be included in revisions to the checklist as applicable.
- Jeff, Stephany Dowd, Rondia Banks, and LaVetta Dent did a walk-through of the Bethany library with Brandon Bredy, CompSource, after the July 28, 2021 safety committee meeting. Jeff will meet with Brandon in October 2021 to schedule another walk-through at a branch location. Jeff will also meet with Brandon and one of his associates in October to review any other revisions/suggestions we want to make to the facility checklist.
The next Safety Committee Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday November 17, 2021, at 2 PM. This meeting and future meetings will be held virtually until further notice.
